The Beşiktaş management's plan to enter the new season with a strong centre-forward and writing Pavlidis to the top of the transfer list has been in the press for weeks. According to the news from one of Portugal's most important sports newspapers, Correio da Manhã, the black-and-whites delivered their official offer to Benfica: 20 million Euros cash plus performance-based bonuses. Benfica, which could not obtain the right to participate in the Champions League and could not get the transfer fee income it expected from other players, is known to be in a financially difficult situation; however, the Portuguese team did not lean towards sending Pavlidis, the most prolific scorer of the last two seasons, cheaply. According to the news, the Benfica management demanded 50 million Euros as a counter-offer. Pavlidis's contract with Benfica continues until 2029; his market value is shown as 28 million Euros.
Pavlidis's Performance This Season
Vangelis Pavlidis closed the 2025-26 season with the Benfica jersey with brilliant figures. The Greek striker played a total of 53 official matches across all competitions; he displayed a performance of 33 goals and 6 assists in these matches, leaving behind one of the most productive seasons of his career. Pavlidis is in the position of being the undisputed number one scorer of Benfica in the last two seasons — the total statistics of his two seasons spent at the Portuguese team is 60 goals in 110 matches.
Who is Vangelis Pavlidis?
The 27-year-old Greek centre-forward is also one of the regular names of the Greek National Team. An important turning point in his career was experienced with the AZ Alkmaar jersey in the 2023-24 season in the Dutch Eredivisie: Pavlidis became the Dutch top scorer with 29 goals that season and entered Europe's radar. Then, after transferring to Benfica in the summer of 2024, the Greek player continued his scoring strikes at the Portuguese team and settled at the centre of the Lisbon team's attacking line. Pavlidis had recently spoken to the Portuguese press about his future; he said "I am happy at Benfica but I have not completely closed the door on a possible departure." Still, since the player's priority is to play in the Champions League, Beşiktaş needs to convince Pavlidis with both contract terms and the championship target for next season. On the Benfica side, Marco Silva, who took over the team after the Mourinho era, plans to include the Greek striker in the pre-season camp.
