CUP EXIT FOR MANU: CARRICK SAYS "RESPONSIBILITY IS MINE"

"I understand how the fans feel. We have to accept it. I accept it too. Ultimately, all the responsibility is mine. I am responsible for how the team looks on the pitch, how we play, and the results we get. I take responsibility for all of it."

A massive shock occurred for Manchester United as they said goodbye to the cup in English football. The Red Devils entered the critical cup struggle against Brighton with the absolute goal of winning. Starting the match very fast and gaining a comfortable 2-0 lead with consecutive goals, the Manchester side practically vanished from the pitch in the following minutes. Brighton did not give up, staging a tremendous comeback, and pushed Manchester United out of the tournament by making the score 3-2 with successive goals. Following this heavy and unexpected defeat, all eyes turned to the team's manager, Michael Carrick. Looking quite upset at the post-match press conference, the experienced coach stated that he understood the anger and disappointment of the fans and put the entire blame for the debacle on himself. Expressing that he is solely responsible for the game structure the team displayed on the pitch and this painful result, Carrick avoided targeting his players. The failure to maintain the 2-0 advantage and saying goodbye to the cup in this manner echoed widely in the British press. While sports authorities criticized the fragile structure displayed by the Manchester United defense in the second half of the match, Carrick's transparent statements taking responsibility were not enough to calm the reaction of the fans.
