Arsenal's championship celebrations, coming after a 22-year drought in the English Premier League, were marred by violence. The massive victory parade, which drew nearly one million fans to the streets of North London, turned into a crime scene due to a stabbing incident near the Emirates Stadium and widespread rioting by fans.
Less than 24 hours after their defeat in the Champions League final, the joy of the title parade quickly turned into chaos. According to the London Metropolitan Police, a fan was stabbed at 9:33 PM local time on Hornsey Road, about a 15-minute walk from the Emirates Stadium. The area was immediately cordoned off, and the injured individual was rushed to the hospital.
Driven by alcohol, groups of unruly hooligans spiraled out of control during the celebrations, climbing onto police vehicles, throwing punches, and chanting. As the unrest escalated, baton-wielding police clashed fiercely with fans. Authorities arrested a total of 16 people for offenses including public disorder, drug possession, sexual assault, and assaulting emergency workers, with six of those arrests directly involving attacks on police officers.
The London Fire Brigade (LFB) also had to intervene, rescuing around 75 people who had climbed onto high structures and roofs. Additionally, an illegal flare or firework set off during the celebrations triggered a fire on the exterior of a hotel. Despite pre-event warnings from the club urging fans not to climb scaffolds, trees, or street furniture, and to avoid pyrotechnics, the incidents cast a dark shadow over the historic celebrations.
