LUKAKU'S STRIKING CONFESSION: "FOOTBALL WAS MY REVENGE"

Belgian superstar Romelu Lukaku told the unbelievable difficulties he experienced before reaching the peak of his career to the sports public. The successful footballer expressed the deep poverty he suffered during his childhood and how these pains motivated him on the pitch with words that will be engraved in history in the article he wrote exclusively for the The Players Tribune platform in the year 2018. The star player explained the main source of that endless massive rage inside him with exactly these striking words: "I played with rage, with a lot of rage. Rage for the rats that ran through our house. Rage because we couldn’t afford to watch the Champions League on TV. Rage because I remembered that Mom had to mix water with milk just to make it last. Rage for those parents who looked at me strangely just for being bigger, for being different. At 12 years old, I scored 76 goals in 34 matches. All with the same boots. My dad’s. It wasn’t just soccer. It was my way of getting revenge on hunger, on prejudice, and on poverty. Every match I’ve played has been a final." These heartbreaking confessions of the Belgian striker ceased to be an ordinary sports story and turned into an epic of life struggle. Lukaku, who became one of the most successful players in the world after those dark days spent with unbelievable poverty, became a big source of inspiration for millions of children. Authorities and fans will definitely not erase these sincere and painful words of the striker from their memories for many years. In the upcoming years, this incredible resistance story written by Lukaku will successfully continue to be a beacon of hope for young talents growing up in difficulties and guide them.
