In the first week of the UEFA Europa League league phase, Beşiktaş hosted French representative Marseille at home. Wanting to make an assertive entrance onto the European stage under Vincenzo Italiano, the Black and Whites left the pitch with a magnificent 4-1 victory against Bruno Génésio's Marseille. The first half of the high-tempo match ended in a 1-1 draw following mutual attacks. However, a completely different Black Eagle took the pitch in the second half. Manager Vincenzo Italiano's critical halftime touches and substitutions completely changed the fate of the match. Taking control of the midfield and applying intense pressure in the opponent's half, Beşiktaş consecutively found the back of the net through the clinical finishing of their attacking stars inside the penalty area, quickly bringing the score to 4-1. While the Marseille defense remained helpless against the organized and fast attacks of the home side, the moves made by Bruno Génésio from the sidelines were not enough to prevent the gap. Backed by thousands of fans filling the stands, Beşiktaş did not break away from their tactical discipline for 90 minutes and showed the whole continent how ambitious they are in the European arena. With this clear victory, the Black Eagle made a fantastic start to the UEFA Europa League league phase with 3 points, while the French side Marseille closed the first week with 0 points. Italiano's tactical brilliance instilled great hope for the European journey.
