Manchester City have taken an official step forward in reshaping their goalkeeping department. According to Fabrizio Romano, the English giants have sent their first official bid to Marseille for the 34-year-old Argentine shot-stopper. Romano wrote: "Manchester City have sent first official bid today to Olympique Marseille for Geronimo Rulli. Negotiations underway between clubs."
The move forms part of a wider reshuffle in City's goalkeeping ranks. James Trafford is expected to join Leeds United in search of more regular playing time, a departure that would in turn trigger Lucas Perri's loan move from Leeds to Torino. Rulli, meanwhile, is set to arrive as understudy to Gianluigi Donnarumma. The player himself is reportedly keen on the move and eager to return to Manchester, having previously been on City's books back in 2016 without ever making a competitive appearance.
Rulli, who made 39 appearances and kept nine clean sheets for Marseille last season, is under contract with the French club until June 2027. Reports in France suggest there is a slight gap in valuation between the two clubs, with City offering €2 million while Marseille are seeking closer to €3.5 million. Marseille are said to already have a replacement lined up in Toulouse's Guillaume Restes. Sporting CP had also previously shown interest in the goalkeeper.
