In the women's singles final of Roland Garros 2026, the 8th-seed Russian tennis player Mirra Andreeva defeated Polish Maja Chwalinska with sets of 6-3 and 6-2 in 1 hour 22 minutes and reached the first Grand Slam victory of her career. In the final played on Court Philippe-Chatrier on Saturday, the 19-year-old Andreeva turned the title of youngest Roland Garros finalist since Coco Gauff in 2022 into a championship. Andreeva's opponent Chwalinska, ranked No. 114 in the world, had come from the qualifiers — spending a fairytale-like 2 weeks as the first qualifier to reach the final in Roland Garros history.

The final, which started at 15:00 local time on Saturday afternoon on the clay of Paris, produced a picture confirming the expected. Andreeva took the lead by breaking Chwalinska's serve in the earlier games of the first set; Chwalinska took a break back but Andreeva did not lower the tempo and went ahead by taking the set 6-3. The second set was more comfortable for Andreeva; she raised the tempo and broke down the consistency wall that Chwalinska had maintained since qualifying. With the 6-2 second set, the match ended in 1 hour 22 minutes in favour of the Russian tennis player.

For final opponent Maja Chwalinska, the days in Paris were quite a fairy tale. The 24-year-old Pole started this tournament from the qualifying rounds; she rose to the main draw by passing Alice Rame, Carole Monnet and Suzan Lamens. Afterwards she defeated Qinwen Zheng (1st round), Elise Mertens (2nd round, 23rd seed), Maria Sakkari (3rd round), Diane Parry (4th round), Anna Kalinskaya (quarter-final, 22nd seed) and Diana Shnaider (semi-final, 25th seed). Chwalinska, who did not retreat in any of her matches for approximately 3 weeks, toured the tournament with the motto "I'm the underdog" and wrote her name as the first qualifier to reach the final in Roland Garros history.

For Andreeva, the Suzanne-Lenglen Cup is the peak of her career. Roland Garros, her 8th WTA career final and her 4th final fight of the 2026 season, also included the revenge of the final she lost to Marta Kostyuk in Madrid after the successes in Adelaide and Linz. Andreeva had lost to Kostyuk 6-3, 7-5 in the Madrid final on May 2; in the Paris semi-final, she had defeated the same opponent 6-1, 6-3 in a clear score in 76 minutes. The 19-year-old new champion is expected to rise to the top 4 in the WTA rankings.
