Manchester United's search for a left-back has run into an unexpected obstacle. According to Sky Sports, Newcastle United gave a clear response to Manchester United's initial enquiry for Lewis Hall two weeks ago: the 21-year-old Englishman is not for sale this summer. The approach for a player long admired by head coach Michael Carrick, and viewed as a long-term option to succeed Luke Shaw, has stalled due to Newcastle's firm stance.
According to the report, Manchester United had identified Hall as one of their priority summer targets as Carrick continues reshaping his squad, with the club previously said to be willing to spend up to £60 million to land him. However, it's emphasised that Newcastle, who signed Hall on loan from Chelsea in the summer of 2023 before making the move permanent in 2024, view him as an important part of new head coach Matthias Jaissle's project and are determined to keep hold of him.
With three years still remaining on his Newcastle contract, Hall's situation gives the club significant leverage in any negotiations. With only Luke Shaw currently available as a senior left-back option following Tyrell Malacia's free departure, Manchester United are expected to continue assessing alternatives following this rejection. For Newcastle fans, who have seen the club lose the likes of Isak, Gordon, Tonali and Guimaraes, this firm stance is being seen as a rare moment of stability during a difficult period of transition.
