One of Spanish football's most discussed sale files collapsed near the final moment. Sergio Ramos's takeover bid for Sevilla, conducted together with Five Eleven Capital, has been completely terminated according to Spanish sources like El Desmarque, COPE, and El Confidencial. In the talks on Wednesday May 27, Ramos's group's halving of the offer caused the current Sevilla management to leave the table.

The initial offer was indeed a historic price tag: €440 million. This figure was divided into three main parts — €80 million for capital increase, €290 million for payment to existing shareholders, and the remaining portion for clearing the club's net debt. A letter of intent had been signed two weeks ago, and the selling side had even agreed to grant a payment extension. Everything seemed to be going well.

But the picture changed during the financial audit process. After examining Sevilla's debt situation and hidden items in its accounts, Five Eleven Capital withdrew its initial offer and presented a new proposal halved: €220 million in total. In this new structure, €120 million was for an urgent capital increase, with the remaining €100 million for purchasing 18% of shares from existing shareholders. In total, Ramos and partners would control more than 42% + 18% = 60% of the club, but the remaining shares would become almost worthless.

Sevilla management considered this proposal "insulting" and immediately left the negotiations. Ramos's group coming to the table with a new representative — sports lawyer Roberto Alvarez and the Mexican family he represents — made the situation more tense. The Sevilla management's "We will not hand over control for such a low price" stance was clearly stated.

For Ramos, this outcome means a failure both personally and sportingly. The 39-year-old former Real Madrid captain became a free agent after his contract with Monterrey expired in December 2025 and had wanted both to return to Sevilla as a player and at the same time to plan to buy the club. In February, Sevilla management even rejected Ramos's offer to play as a player for free, citing conflict of interest.

Now Ramos appears to have completely cut ties with Sevilla both as a player and as an investor. For the Andalusian team, the management crisis continues; a search for a new buyer or a management change is on the agenda. A Real Madrid legend's dream of returning to "his home club" was ended by a single word: financial audit.                 El Confidencial
