The new chapter of Liverpool's legendary manager in the football world has unexpectedly become uncertain. According to Austrian newspaper Salzburger Nachrichten's shock February report, the 58-year-old Jürgen Klopp's role as Red Bull Global Soccer Director since January 2025 is in danger. Salzburger's claim is clear: due to "lack of sporting progress," Red Bull management is questioning Klopp's position. Oliver Glasner is reportedly being prepared as his replacement. This news exploded instantly on social media because Liverpool fans started dreaming about "a big return."

Red Bull CEO Oliver Mintzlaff clearly rejected the rumors. In his statement to Sky Sports DE, he said: "That is complete nonsense and entirely made up. On the contrary, we are extremely satisfied with the work Jürgen Klopp is doing." According to Mintzlaff, Klopp's Red Bull role has gone far beyond the initial "figurehead" expectations. According to ESPN's December 2025 analysis, Klopp personally attends RB Leipzig training, gets directly involved in transfer negotiations, and Mintzlaff described him as "the company's marquee signing without any fee." Red Bull's portfolio now develops with 6 clubs: RB Leipzig, RB Salzburg, New York Red Bulls, RB Bragantino, RB Omiya Ardija, plus minority stakes in Leeds United/Paris FC.

The Real Madrid connection adds drama. According to Football España's February report, Real Madrid considers Klopp as one of two roles that could pull him out of retirement "under the right conditions." The second role is Germany national team — possibly available after the 2026 World Cup depending on which direction Julian Nagelsmann goes. Klopp's Red Bull contract has an exit clause if the Germany national team job becomes available. Sky Sports' initial report confirms this fate was already determined back in 2024.

Realizing Klopp's dream of returning to Anfield is not possible. When leaving Liverpool, he said "I won't manage another English club." Going back on this word would damage the respect for his career. Real Madrid, however, is a different story — Klopp has Bundesliga (Mainz, Borussia Dortmund) and Premier League (Liverpool) experience, but La Liga was missing. Madrid's Champions League title target and the failure of the last season make a manager like Klopp attractive — especially alongside Mourinho's Real Madrid return rumors.

Klopp's own statements add another layer of complexity. When announcing his departure from Liverpool in February 2024, he said "my energy is running out" but didn't maintain the "I'll never return to football coaching" stance. In his Instagram statement he said: "A few months ago I said I don't see myself on the sidelines any more, and that's still the case. But I still love football and love working, and Red Bull gives me the perfect platform for that." But a year later, with the words "I want to learn again, because when you are in the job and you have to play every three days, you barely have time for that," he didn't hide his longing for active coaching. Klopp's decision will become clear in the coming weeks, and the football world holds its breath.
