One of Tottenham's most eye-catching moves of the summer transfer window has stretched to Napoli. According to the report, the London club have made contact over a move for the Italian giants' 23-year-old midfielder Antonio Vergara. On Napoli's side, the club are moving quickly in the face of growing interest, trying to secure their star's future with a new contract.
A concrete figure is on the agenda on the fee front. An offer worth around €25 million plus bonuses is expected to arrive, but Tottenham are not alone in the race. Bournemouth are also said to be tracking the file, while Atalanta, Roma and Como are reported to be interested in the player in Italy.
Napoli's retention plan has also become clear. Club president Aurelio De Laurentiis and agent Mario Giuffredi are reported to have held a summit that also put the Vergara file on the table alongside captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo's contract, set to be extended until 2029. Napoli are said to want to "lock down" their 2003-born star by extending his contract until 2032.
The player's form only strengthens the picture. Despite losing around two months last season to an injection-related injury, Vergara shone with 3 goals and 4 assists in 19 matches, also catching the eye with a goal against Chelsea in the Champions League. With his current contract already running until 2030, the young star is said to be leaning towards staying at Napoli and wanting to develop under Max Allegri.
