SHOCK AFTER TRABZON MATCH: YASIN KOL DETAINED

According to the breaking news shared by HT Spor that deeply shakes Turkish football, the 38-year-old experienced referee Yasin Kol was detained by the security forces right at the end of the European match between Trabzonspor and Drogheda United, where he blew the whistle. Along with Yasin Kol, who managed countless critical derbies in past years and is one of the most known faces of the refereeing community, Goktug Hazar Erel was also taken to the police station within the scope of the same operation. The police authorities add quite heavy allegations to the file as the justification for this historic decision. It is clearly stated that the duo faces accusations of abuse of office, active participation in the crime of forgery, and opposing law number 7258, which includes the regulation of legal betting games and the fight against illegal betting activities. Especially the connections established with illegal betting networks carry this critical investigation conducted by the judicial authorities to a much deeper dimension. The experienced referee took charge in a total of 4 matches in the Turkish professional leagues during this current season. Starting the season with the match that ended 1-1 between Gaziantep FK and Alanyaspor, Yasin Kol then managed the struggle where Samsunspor lost 0-2 to Fenerbahce, the match where Erzurumspor FK defeated Konyaspor 1-0, and finally the encounter where Genclerbirligi was defeated 1-2 by Kasimpasa. The legal process of the referees, whose testimony procedures currently continue without slowing down in the police units, is followed second by second by the entire sports public. It seems highly probable that the Turkish Football Federation will make an official statement regarding this massive crisis in the coming hours. Turkish football will await the legal decisions to come out with great concern and curiosity.
