103-GOAL LEGEND: FENERBAHÇE'S RECORD SEASON

Completely revamping its squad after three unsuccessful seasons, Fenerbahçe left its mark on the 1988-1989 season under the leadership of President Tahsin Kaya and the management of Yugoslav coach Todor Veselinovic. The Yellow-Navies collected 93 points by getting 29 wins, 6 draws, and only 1 loss in 36 matches, declaring their 12th league championship by putting a 10-point gap between them and their closest rival, Beşiktaş. The only 2-0 defeat away to Beşiktaş, who finished the season second with 83 points, caused the team to narrowly miss the undefeated championship title. Galatasaray, on the other hand, remained in third place with 69 points. Sending exactly 103 goals to the opponent's nets in this legendary season, Fenerbahçe achieved an incredible goal average of 2.86 per match and won the title of the highest-scoring team in Super League history. Aykut Kocaman, the team's biggest weapon in the attack, finished the season as the top scorer, bringing this prestigious honor to his club for the 8th time, while also earning the title of the first Fenerbahçe player to exceed the 20-goal threshold in a single season. This series of records, written in golden letters in Turkish football history, has still not been surpassed despite the passing years.
