Napoli's defensive plans are taking a new direction at head coach Massimiliano Allegri's request. According to information shared by Nicolo Schira on X, Napoli are searching for a centre-back to replace the injured Buongiorno, and Allegri has set his sights on Federico Gatti at Juventus. The 1998-born defender played under Allegri at Juventus between 2022 and 2024, forming a strong bond with the Italian coach.
Per Schira, Napoli could put forward a swap deal to secure Gatti, with goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic reportedly offered as a counterpart to Juventus. It's worth recalling that Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis had previously rejected a proposed Gatti-Olivera swap. Juventus, for their part, currently have Guglielmo Vicario as their priority target in goal, with Milinkovic-Savic among the alternatives being considered.
Speculation over Gatti's future has surfaced before. Back in June, Schira reported that Juventus sporting director Damien Comolli had postponed the defender's contract renewal until after the Club World Cup. Gatti's priority is said to remain staying at Juventus, though he expects the club to honour its promise on a new deal. AC Milan had also made contact over Gatti back in December, though Juventus were not considering a sale at that time.
