The picture surrounding Arsenal's captain's future has taken an unexpected turn over the past 24 hours. According to TeamTalk, Arsenal are not ruling out selling captain Martin Odegaard and will listen to suitable offers this summer. There is serious interest in the 27-year-old, although clubs have so far been reluctant to meet Arsenal's expected valuation; a summer exit remains unlikely, but the scenario has not been entirely taken off the table.

This actually represents a rapid shift in the situation. Just a week ago, TeamTalk reported that Arsenal had no intention of changing Odegaard's role or long-term importance to the club, that Mikel Arteta held full confidence in his captain, and that the club had opened talks over a new contract.

The latest developments, however, point in a different direction. Reports from the past 24 hours suggest the picture changed after Arsenal lost out on Morgan Rogers to Chelsea for £117 million; according to TeamTalk, the club is now "surprisingly willing to entertain bids," with the background reportedly including a planned move worth around £75 million for Newcastle's Bruno Guimaraes, which could hasten Odegaard's exit.

His situation on the pitch also reinforces this scenario. Having found himself on the bench at times towards the end of last season, it is suggested this could continue should a more physical presence, such as Guimaraes, join the midfield.

An interesting detail also accompanies this file. Intermediaries are reported to have recently sounded out potential interest from Italy, with Inter Milan and Juventus among the clubs alerted to the player's situation.

Nevertheless, the picture within the club still sends mixed signals. The player himself is said to be extremely happy in north London and wants to continue his journey with Arsenal, while Arteta reportedly continues to have full faith in his captain and has no desire whatsoever to see him depart this summer. Having joined from Real Madrid in 2021 and taken over the captain's armband in July 2022, the Norwegian is viewed internally as one of the defining figures of the current era alongside Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka.
