Arsenal's new left-wing target: Antonio Nusa

Arsenal's operation to rebuild their left flank has gained another name. According to the report, the London club are preparing an offer worth around €40 million for RB Leipzig's Norwegian winger Antonio Nusa this month. The 21-year-old's performances at the World Cup strengthened the club's interest; Nusa is viewed as a long-term solution on the left.

The course of the negotiation, however, looks tough. Arsenal's opening figure is unlikely to satisfy Leipzig, with the German side demanding at least €60 million for their player. Newcastle United, Juventus and several other European clubs are also reported to be closely monitoring the situation; Leipzig are said to prefer retaining Nusa, but their stance could change if a major offer arrives.

The performance driving the price up is plain to see. Helping Norway reach the World Cup quarterfinal for the first time in their history — where they were eliminated by England — Nusa produced one of the tournament's memorable individual moments with a brilliant goal against Ivory Coast. That performance has directly shaped the valuation on the club's table.

The move is part of a bigger plan for Arsenal: the club are also simultaneously tracking Club Brugge star Christos Tzolis for the left-wing spot vacated by Leandro Trossard's move to Besiktas, and are weighing multiple names. With Nusa under contract until 2029 and Leipzig said to feel no immediate pressure to sell, it is also noted that his existing bond with Norway captain Martin Ødegaard could speed up his settling in London.
