Juventus' goalkeeper search this summer window has hit another obstacle following Aston Villa's firm rejection. According to Di Marzio, Aston Villa have rejected Juventus' offer for Emiliano Martinez; the Italian club proposed just €6-7 million, and Aston Villa turned it down flat.
This rejection marks the latest chapter in a file that has run for months. Villa's director of professional football, Damian Vidagany, made the club's position clear publicly on July 14: "Emiliano Martinez is very important for us, he is a key player at Aston Villa. Everything being said about his departure during this summer transfer window is just rumours, and we rely heavily on him for the team's project for the upcoming season. The goalkeeper's future is assured; he will continue with us, and there is no intention to let him go this summer."
This firm stance has also been confirmed by other sources. Fabrizio Romano reported that Villa sources pushed back hard, insisting the club would not entertain any offer close to the €6-7 million figure. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, earlier Juventus offers rising up to €12 million had also been rejected, with no progress made on the fee between the clubs despite an agreement in principle on personal terms.
This deadlock has pushed Juventus towards alternative names. Tottenham's Guglielmo Vicario and Freiburg's Noah Atubolu have emerged as new options on the Italian club's radar.
The player's own stance, however, paints a different picture. La Gazzetta dello Sport reported that Martinez himself has grown "annoyed" with Villa's position, having made clear through his representatives that he has no intention of staying at the club and is prepared to fight for a move to Italy.
The player's history at the club underlines the significance of this dispute. Signed by Villa for around £20 million in 2020 and under contract until 2029, the 33-year-old Argentine goalkeeper made 44 appearances across all competitions last season, playing a key role in Villa's Europa League triumph and their fourth-place Premier League finish, which secured Champions League football.
