Aston Villa have finalised the transfer of Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki from Parma. The English club are reported to have reached an agreement with the Italian side over the young shot-stopper, worth a total of €35 million, comprising a €30 million fixed fee plus €5 million in bonuses.
Suzuki's performances at Parma had drawn the attention of several European clubs. The young goalkeeper's reflexes and technique are cited among the main reasons behind Aston Villa's determination to pursue this transfer. The player is said to be seen as part of the English club's long-term planning between the posts.
This transfer is also being linked to Aston Villa's squad-depth strategy. The club is said to be aiming to increase competition by adding a young, promising name to its current goalkeeping ranks.
There has been no official statement from Parma on the matter yet, but it is reported that the deal was agreed between both clubs. Suzuki is expected to join Aston Villa shortly and begin his new career in the Premier League.
