Barça to MLS: Lewandowski to sign for Chicago Fire

Robert Lewandowski's future is settled. According to Fabrizio Romano, a reliable name in transfer news who announced it with his "here we go", the experienced Polish striker will continue his career in the United States, in the colours of MLS side Chicago Fire.

As reported by Romano, Lewandowski decided to join Chicago Fire after visiting the club and the city around two weeks ago. An agreement has been reached on all the details, and the player is expected to sign his contract early next week. The star forward thus brings his European career to a close and begins a new chapter across the Atlantic.

The most important factor that made this transfer possible was the player's current situation. Lewandowski's contract with Barcelona expires on June 30, and the Polish striker becomes a free agent. Earlier, Romano had reported that the player travelled to the US with his agent Pini Zahavi and had been offered a contract of two or three years.

One of Europe's most prolific centre-forwards throughout his career, Lewandowski moved from Bayern Munich to Barcelona in 2022 and enjoyed significant success with the Catalan side. Now the next stop on his football journey is MLS, a league that has been attracting global stars in recent years.

Lewandowski's decision once again shows MLS's appeal during the summer window. After Antoine Griezmann joined Orlando, the American league adds another European star to its ranks this summer.
