Barça's Kane plan: a push after the World Cup

Barcelona have set their sights on an ambitious signing for their attack. The Catalan club have contacted the representatives of England captain Harry Kane as they search for a long-term striker to replace Robert Lewandowski, agreeing to revisit the matter once England's World Cup campaign is over.

The 32-year-old, who has one year left on his contract with Bayern Munich, is extremely happy in Germany; Bayern, for their part, have no wish to consider offers for him. According to what has been reported, Kane's representatives shut down the initial approach and are more interested in talks over a new contract with the Bundesliga champions after the tournament. For now, the player's entire focus is on England's World Cup campaign under Thomas Tuchel.

Even so, Barcelona appear ready to "go all out" for Kane if any door opens. But prising Kane away from Bayern will be far from easy; the club are expected to demand an astronomical fee for a striker who quickly transformed their attack in Germany, reached 70 goals for club and country last season and became England's all-time leading World Cup goalscorer.

Kane is not Barcelona's only plan for such an ambitious signing. The Catalan club are keeping alternatives on the agenda in case the deal proves difficult; chief among them is Julián Álvarez, who has recently voiced his desire to leave Atlético Madrid. The picture around Kane's future will largely become clearer after the tournament, depending on how his contract talks with Bayern develop.
