Fenerbahce's pursuit of Vangelis Pavlidis has hit a significant obstacle. According to Record, Benfica swiftly turned down the €40 million offer submitted by the Turkish club in recent hours. Club president Rui Costa and his board have set a clear figure to release the Greek forward: €70 million.
According to the report, Benfica's priority is to keep Pavlidis, with the player set to be rewarded with a substantial salary increase and a loyalty bonus should he decide to stay at the club. The 27-year-old forward, under contract with Benfica until 2029 and protected by a €100 million release clause, delivered an outstanding campaign last season, scoring 30 goals and providing five assists in 53 appearances across all competitions. This season, he has already played a key role in Benfica's Europa League progression, scoring four goals against St. Gallen.
Pavlidis' name has featured prominently on Turkish clubs' transfer radars this summer, with Besiktas having previously stepped in with an offer around €35 million, well short of Benfica's valuation. Barcelona have also reportedly considered Pavlidis as an alternative in their search for a striker, while the player's agent has held talks with Fenerbahce, though Benfica remain unwilling to sanction a sale for now.
