In the 2026 FIFA World Cup Group B opening match, Bosnia & Herzegovina led Canada 1-0 in the first half at BMO Field. The only goal of the match was scored in the 21st minute by Jovan Lukic. Lukic, who converted the assist of Bosnian captain Sead Kolasinac, struck a blow against the host team. Canada, who looked dominant statistically, could not get into effective positions.

The first warning of the match came in the 11th minute to Canada's Alistair Johnston; he was shown a yellow card for tripping. In the 21st minute, Bosnia & Herzegovina's only meaningful attack turned into a goal: Kolasinac's cross was sent into the net by Lukic. On the Bosnia & Herzegovina side, Ermedin Demirovic was shown a yellow card in the 45th minute and Lukic in the 45+1 for pushing.

The first half statistics clearly show Canada's pressure. Expected goals (xG) Canada 0.77 to Bosnia & Herzegovina 0.59; possession 66% to 34%; total shots 8 to 5; big chance 1 for both teams; touches in the opposition box Canada 20 to Bosnia & Herzegovina 7.

The notable position in first-half stoppage time came from Canada. In the 45+4, Derek Cornelius rose highest on a cross from the air, met the ball and sent it towards the goal with his head; however, the good header went over the bar in an unusual way. A minute before in the 45+3, Canada had forced their opponents to put the ball out for a corner. Argentine referee Facundo Tello is officiating the match. BMO Field is hosting the opener with 45,736 people.

In the second half, Jesse Marsch's team will take the field to find balance and turn the score around. Sergej Barbarez's side will try to protect their advantage and increase the score with counter-attacks.
