Premier League champions Arsenal are entering the summer window with a strong target. According to The Guardian, Mikel Arteta's side have identified Aston Villa's England man Morgan Rogers as their number one transfer target to strengthen the attack. The 23-year-old star is said to be open to a move to the Emirates Stadium.
Arteta, who won the Premier League last season, wants to add more depth to his squad and sees Rogers as a key addition for that plan. But the deal clearly won't be easy; Aston Villa are determined to keep one of their most important players, and talks have not yet formally begun. Even so, Arsenal are optimistic about completing the move. The fee is reported to reach as much as £100 million, making the transfer one of the summer's most expensive files.
One of Rogers' biggest strengths is his versatility. Able to play in midfield and on both wings, the player could give Arteta plenty of tactical options and change Arsenal's attacking hierarchy. That has fuelled speculation about other names in the squad. Martin Ødegaard's future has been discussed after a difficult individual season, while Arsenal are said to be open to listening to offers for Gabriel Martinelli. In that sense, Rogers is seen not just as an addition but as a tool to reshape Arteta's attack.
Standing out for his rapid rise, Rogers has come onto the radar of many clubs with impressive performances at club and international level; Chelsea and other leading European sides have also shown interest. Despite signing a six-year contract with Aston Villa last November, the England player appears open to the possibility of joining the Gunners. Signed from Middlesbrough for around £8 million in 2024, Rogers has racked up 31 goals and 29 assists in 125 games for Villa.
Currently with England at the 2026 World Cup, Rogers is focused on the tournament; he featured in the win over Croatia and is competing for a regular starting place. How aggressively Arsenal push for this transfer, and whether they meet Villa's high expectations, will become clearer in the coming weeks.
