Bad news has arrived for Rangers' most valuable striker, Youssef Chermiti. According to an official Rangers statement, the Portuguese forward suffered an ACL injury during Sunday's match against Hibernian and will be out of action for a significant period of time. The club said: "Following assessment, striker Youssef Chermiti suffered an ACL injury in Sunday's match with Hibernian. Youssef will be out of action for a significant period of time. Everyone at Rangers is with him as he begins his recovery."
According to the report, the injury came just hours after Rangers' management rejected a substantial transfer bid of around £22 million from Galatasaray for Chermiti. It's noted that club chairman Andrew Cavenagh faced questions about the bid and why Chermiti remained in the starting lineup at a meeting with shareholders and supporters in Glasgow on Monday morning. Rangers' hierarchy have indicated they have no interest in doing business at that price point and remain focused on strengthening the squad.
Having joined from Everton last summer in a deal worth up to £10 million, and having delivered 15 goals and five assists across all competitions last season, the 22-year-old Chermiti's chances of any transfer are now said to be firmly off the table following this injury. The Portugal U21 international is expected to miss a large portion, if not all, of the season.
