Liverpool's Italian winger Federico Chiesa has put an end to speculation over his future. According to Foot Mercato, the 27-year-old has turned down numerous offers this summer, including a formal approach from Atletico Madrid and proposals from Roma, Napoli and Como for a return to Italy. Chiesa's decision reflects his determination to earn a place in the squad under new head coach Andoni Iraola.
Chiesa, who struggled for regular playing time under Arne Slot last season, making just 50 competitive appearances, only nine of them starts, still managed to contribute five goals and five assists. The Italian star, who turns 29 in October, has made clear his intention to fight for his spot at Anfield despite an injury-hit history. Speaking in recent weeks, he said: "Right now, I am happy here at Liverpool. I love the club, I love the fans, I love everything. I am doing the best I can to have a chance here."
Chiesa's decision has proven a major setback for interested clubs, particularly Diego Simeone's Atletico Madrid, who had shown heavy interest in the player throughout the summer. Reports from the Italian press also indicate that Chiesa previously rejected an approach from Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce.
