Coppola transfer done: from Brighton to Paris FC

A loan adventure is turning into a permanent signature. According to Fabrizio Romano, everything in Diego Coppola's transfer from Brighton to Paris FC was completed four days ago; the total €20 million package (€18 million plus €2 million in add-ons) to be paid to the English club has been confirmed.

The 22-year-old Italian international centre-back's adventure in England had not gone as expected. Joining Brighton from Hellas Verona for around €11 million in June 2025, Coppola featured in only nine matches for the south coast side. His fate changed at Paris FC, whom he joined on loan at the end of January: making 14 appearances for the French capital club, the young defender returned to an upward path with regular football and convinced the club to make the move permanent.

On Paris FC's side, this move is seen as one of the first major steps of the project taking shape under new head coach Liam Rosenior. Brighton, meanwhile, nearly doubled the investment they made a year earlier, securing a significant profit on a player who never found stability with them.

Another dimension of the transfer extends to Italy. Lazio, who sold Alessio Romagnoli to Al-Sadd and Mario Gila to Milan and are continuing their search for a centre-back, have missed out on Coppola, whom they had placed high on their shortlist in recent weeks. The Roman club is reported to have turned to alternatives following this development, with Danilho Doekhi, the free agent from Union Berlin with whom a verbal agreement has been reached, and Spanish defender Sergi Domínguez the prominent names. The official announcement of Coppola's signing at Paris FC is expected shortly.
