Corum FK's dream is over: Aubameyang in Spain

One of the boldest moves of newly promoted Corum FK's summer transfer window has come to nothing. According to L'Équipe, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has rejected the club's attractive two-year offer worth €3.5 million net per year. The 37-year-old Gabon striker preferred to continue his career in Spain; he is expected to officially sign for a La Liga club shortly.

According to the Turkish press, that club is newly promoted Deportivo La Coruña. The Spanish side are reported to have reached an agreement with Marseille via the €1.5 million release clause in Aubameyang's contract, with the striker ready to sign a two-year deal. Marseille, facing financial difficulties and needing to trim their wage budget, are also said to be receptive to the departure.

On Corum FK's side, the process had been turbulent for a while. Club vice-president Feyyaz Gökel said last week: "Aubameyang is also a player we admire, a brother we're fond of; no official signature has been put down yet." It was also claimed that the striker, after visiting the city, never quite warmed to Corum, and that his request to rent homes in both Corum and Istanbul to live between the two cities was turned down by the club's management.

The veteran striker's decision signals that the next stop of his career has become clear. Making 41 appearances across all competitions for Marseille last season with 14 goals and 10 assists, and having worn the shirts of clubs such as Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal, Barcelona and Chelsea during his career, Aubameyang is preparing to line up his goals under Spanish skies next season.
