Another big coaching seat in Serie A has found a new owner. According to news announced with the "Here we go!" formula by one of the transfer world's most reliable names, Fabrizio Romano, Massimiliano Allegri has become Napoli's new head coach after Antonio Conte. The agreement reached its final form when all conditions presented by president Aurelio De Laurentiis were accepted by the player's side; a two-year contract and an annual salary of about €5 million are at stake.

The last few hours of the decision process were a breathtaking drama in Italian football. According to reports by La Gazzetta dello Sport and Gianluca Di Marzio, De Laurentiis initially considered continuing with Vincenzo Italiano; even when Italiano officially left Bologna, this variant was on the table. But De Laurentiis, dissatisfied with the prolonged talks with Bologna, turned to Allegri opposite Italiano and made a surprise move.

Allegri's career profile in itself reflects the confidence he brings to Napoli. The 56-year-old coach won the 2010-11 Serie A title with AC Milan, then accumulated a magnificent trophy collection at Juventus, including five consecutive Serie A titles. Last season, he had taken over Milan again on an interim basis but the team finished 5th and qualified for the Europa League; the Gerry Cardinale management has gone for a complete restructuring this season.

Conte's departure from Napoli was a story in itself. The Italian coach, who came with a three-year contract in 2024, decided to leave after the team failed to win the Scudetto. Compatibility issues between De Laurentiis and Conte had also been among the topics discussed; filling Conte's spot was not easy.

Allegri's biggest task ahead is building a squad that will carry Napoli into the 2026-27 Champions League. A new era is now beginning at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona. But for Allegri to officially sign with Napoli, the legal departure process with Milan must first be completed; this process is set to be finalized during the day.

De Laurentiis was looking for a coach with both a strong career profile and the ability to manage pressure at big clubs; Allegri fits this description exactly. Now Napoli will hit the road to return to the top both in Europe and in the domestic league.
