The next destination for free agent DeMar DeRozan, waived by the Sacramento Kings, is beginning to take shape. According to ClutchPoints' Brett Siegel, the Denver Nuggets are planning to offer the 37-year-old veteran wing a minimum-salary contract. Siegel wrote: "The Nuggets hold interest in signing veteran swingman DeMar DeRozan to a minimum contract."
According to the report, DeRozan is being considered as a potential replacement for Peyton Watson, who has yet to sign a contract extension and could depart the Nuggets' roster. As an experienced forward capable of scoring within the flow of an offense, DeRozan is said to be able to slide into the starting lineup without disrupting the team's typical rhythm. However, it's noted that DeRozan does not appear particularly keen on accepting a minimum contract after being waived by Sacramento, and has instead been assessing teams with part of or all of their mid-level exception still available.
DeRozan, a six-time All-Star who averaged 18.4 points, 4.1 assists and 1.0 steals per game for the Kings last season, is said to be prioritising a team where he has the greatest chance of success at this stage of his career. It's also noted that the Miami Heat, who have $8.9 million remaining in their mid-level exception, are a team DeRozan would show strong interest in if offered that amount, with Denver said to be far from the only suitor in this race.
