A statement Ousmane Dembélé made in the past has resurfaced in football conversation. The French star openly shared his post-football plans during a chat with national teammate Aurélien Tchouaméni, then of Real Madrid, on ESN's YouTube programme "The Bridge": "I want to retire at 34. And then I want to get into the property business. Invest in Africa, in France."

The timing of the remark is clear: November 2024. Dembélé, 27 at the time, was going through his first season after his move from Barcelona to PSG, having already won three trophies with the club that season, including the Ligue 1 title. It is recalled that the star has battled injuries throughout his career, and that around the time of the remark he had to withdraw from the national team squad with a hamstring injury.

The words resurfacing today has renewed interest in the player's ambitions beyond football. For Dembélé, now 29 and continuing his career at PSG, the "retire at 34" target still points to a horizon of roughly five years; both his future on the pitch and his plans off it continue to hold fans' curiosity.
