Diomande would pick PSG if he leaves Leipzig

The future of RB Leipzig's young star Yann Diomande remains one of the most talked-about stories of the summer transfer window. According to The Athletic, the 19-year-old Ivory Coast winger would choose Paris Saint-Germain if he were to leave his club.

Behind this leaning lies the player's personal bond with PSG. Diomande has described the French side as a team he has "loved since he was little," saying his father is also a PSG supporter. The young player, who has said it would be "a pleasure" to play in France and that adapting — starting with the language — would not be difficult, nonetheless stressed that for now he is an RB Leipzig player.

The biggest obstacle to this transfer, however, is Leipzig's stance. The German club does not want to sell its star and is aiming to secure his long-term future by extending his contract. Having set an opening valuation of around €130 million for Diomande, Leipzig want to keep him for at least one more season and are under no pressure to sell.

The race is not one-sided, though. Premier League side Liverpool have long been chasing Diomande and indicated they would be willing to pay the club around €100 million. Looking to strengthen their attack after Mohamed Salah's departure, Liverpool are seen as being in a strong position in this transfer. So even if Diomande's heart is set on PSG, how the club-to-club agreement evolves remains uncertain.

Under contract with Leipzig until 2030, Diomande is currently focused on the World Cup. A decision on the future of the young star, who caught the eye with a breakout season in the Bundesliga, is expected to become clearer after the tournament.
