A sign of easing tension has emerged in the Salah-Besiktas saga, which has run for months and taken numerous dramatic turns. According to Yagiz Sabuncuoglu, Mohamed Salah's agent Ramy Abbas Issa has lowered his commission demand from €7.5 million and moved closer to the figure proposed by president Serdal Adali.
The background to this deadlock had been rather turbulent. Adali previously claimed that Abbas had raised his commission demand to "unbelievable figures, reaching about 35%," stating this percentage could not be accepted under any circumstances: "Salah had given his approval for this transfer, and his agent initially responded positively to our offer. Salah spoke to our technical director and sporting director and gave his approval, but later, when it was written in the media that the transfer had been completed, the agent raised his financial demands."
The scale of this file had grown even further with an unexpected name. According to Sozcu, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan personally became involved in resolving this deadlock, requesting detailed information from Adali on the state of negotiations; club officials are reported to believe indirect government backing could help clear the enormous financial hurdles a deal of this size demands.
Besiktas is also recalled to have taken concrete steps. The club is reported to have sent Abbas a formal invitation for a face-to-face meeting in Istanbul, hoping to bring the percentage in line with the club's budget.
The broad outlines of the contract also fit a familiar framework. According to an earlier report from KingFut, the parties had reached a preliminary agreement before the dispute emerged, with the proposed contract running for one year (with an option for a second season) and Salah's annual earnings set at €12 million.
This latest development suggests the file has been revived. It is emphasised that the possibility of the 34-year-old Egyptian star, who became a free agent after leaving Liverpool this summer following nine seasons, joining Besiktas has regained momentum.
