Nicolas Hamilton, the brother of Formula 1 legend Lewis Hamilton, has deeply touched the motorsport world with his latest social media post. Nicolas, who was born with Cerebral Palsy and spent his childhood in a wheelchair, juxtaposed two photos taken 18 years apart to showcase how dreams can become reality.
In his post, Nicolas first featured a picture from the 2008 Spanish Grand Prix. The photo shows a young Lewis Hamilton—who had not yet won any of his world championships—pushing his brother in his wheelchair. The second image displays both brothers today, side-by-side in their racing suits as professional drivers.
"Who Would Have Thought?"
Nicolas wrote an emotional caption under the post:
"In 2008, Lewis was pushing me in my wheelchair at the Spanish GP. Today, we are both getting ready to jump into our race cars! Maybe this path was meant for Lewis, but it definitely wasn't the one laid out for me. Every time I get into my car, I think of little Nic who sat in that chair, struggling to walk but dreaming of racing. It doesn't matter if I finish first or last; I am racing for that kid."
Both brothers will be on the track this weekend. While Lewis Hamilton fights for a podium finish with Ferrari at the Canadian Grand Prix, Nicolas Hamilton will be behind the wheel for Team VERTU at the Snetterton circuit in the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). This journey from a wheelchair to professional racing goes down in sports history as one of the most beautiful examples of determination and brotherly love.
