In the second 2026 FIFA World Cup Group L match, England face Ghana at the Gillette Stadium. The Three Lions, who beat Croatia in their opener and look on course to win Group L with two kinder fixtures ahead, have raised expectations.

England endured adversity against Croatia but began the tournament with a clear win. Although Harry Kane's first-half brace was cancelled out by two excellent Croatia goals, England turned it on after the break to secure the win. Thomas Tuchel's side, contenders to win a wide-open World Cup, want to lock up top spot with a game remaining; to do so they must beat the 73rd-ranked Ghana and hope Croatia bounce back to topple Panama.

Tuchel is expected to name a largely unchanged side. Jordan Pickford is in goal, with Reece James, John Stones, Ezri Konsa and Nico O'Reilly in defence. Elliot Anderson and Declan Rice operate in midfield, while Jude Bellingham is set to earn his 50th England cap in this game; Noni Madueke starts on the right in place of the not-fully-fit Bukayo Saka. At the centre of the attack is Harry Kane, the man this team is built around.

Sports Illustrated have England as clear favourites for this game; a win would put the Three Lions in a strong position on the road to topping the group.

Probable XI (England)
England: Pickford; James, Stones, Konsa, O'Reilly; Anderson, Rice; Madueke, Bellingham, Gordon; Kane
