€40m clause in play: the battle for Crysencio Summerville

West Ham's most prized asset of the summer window has become the target of four major clubs. According to Ben Jacobs, Tottenham are considering a move for West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville; while Spurs' top priority remains Savinho, Summerville is also on the agenda as the club looks for a starting attacker. Manchester United and Roma are also reported to be interested in the Dutchman, who is valued at £30 million.

Tottenham's plan has become clear from Jacobs' own comments. Speaking on GiveMeSport's Market Madness podcast, Jacobs said the club, having already completed its goalkeeper and defensive-midfield reinforcements, now wants a starting left winger or attacker as a priority: "Savinho talks are ongoing, but he's not the only target. Crysencio Summerville, Manchester United and most recently Roma are there as well."

The picture on West Ham's side is also notable. Following the club's relegation to the Championship, West Ham are said to feel no financial pressure to sell the player, though Summerville himself does not want to play in the second tier.

The player's performances justify this intense interest. Having produced 5 goals and 4 assists in 31 Premier League appearances last season, and having made headlines at the World Cup by contributing 2 goals and 2 assists in 4 matches for the Netherlands, Summerville is also reported to have a £40 million release clause that was activated by West Ham's relegation — making him an attractive option available at a discounted price.
