Woltemade moved from Stuttgart to St James' Park last summer, but his first Premier League season did not unfold as either the player or the club had hoped. Early in the campaign, due to Newcastle's injury issues and tactical demands, he was pushed into a central striker role despite that not being seen as his strongest or most natural position. The 1.98m striker still contributed seven goals and three assists in the Premier League; but according to TeamTalk, he has grown increasingly frustrated in recent weeks.

Per sources, Woltemade cut an unhappy figure behind the scenes after starting just once in Newcastle's last four matches, with concerns growing over both his role and his long-term fit in the squad. The player is now seriously weighing his options ahead of the summer window, with a return to European football outside England emerging as a strong possibility.

For Newcastle, the picture is balanced. TeamTalk reported that the Magpies do not want to force Woltemade out and remain open to him staying, but would be willing to discuss an exit if the right conditions arise. Club insiders acknowledge there is little realistic chance of immediately recovering all of the near-£70 million invested in the player only 12 months ago. That means Newcastle face the risk of taking a loss on any sale.

Interest in Woltemade, meanwhile, is building rapidly across Europe. Per TeamTalk, Borussia Dortmund are among the clubs showing the strongest interest in the German forward as they assess attacking reinforcements for next season. But Dortmund are not alone. Former club Stuttgart are also monitoring the situation closely and would welcome the chance to bring Woltemade back to the Bundesliga, particularly with Champions League football awaiting them next season. Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen are likewise keeping close tabs on developments.

The interest is not limited to Germany. TeamTalk confirmed that Atletico Madrid are among the clubs aware of Woltemade's situation and have discussed his profile internally as they evaluate potential attacking additions this summer. All of this strengthens the possibility of the striker's St James' Park adventure ending after just one season. The balance between the fee Newcastle will demand and the offers from interested clubs stands out as the key factor that will determine whether the transfer happens.
