According to a report from ElDesmarque, the Spanish star considers the renewal offer presented by the club to be entirely insufficient on both sporting and financial levels; he wants a substantially improved salary and demands guarantees over his playing time under new head coach Hansi Flick.
Torres' frustration carries even more weight given his recent form. The Spanish star became a hero for his country by scoring the decisive goal that crowned Spain champions in the World Cup final against Argentina. Having made 207 appearances and scored 65 goals for Barcelona since joining from Manchester City in January 2022 — including 21 goals in 49 matches last season alone — Torres reportedly feels he has not received the recognition he deserves from the club despite this productivity.
There is an interesting financial detail behind Barcelona's reluctance. According to The Athletic, a clause inserted during his transfer from City means any renewal would require the club to make an additional payment to the Premier League champions, pushing the overall cost to approximately €73 million.
