Galatasaray's audacious target: Federico Valverde

Galatasaray's most ambitious move of the summer window has come to light. According to a report from Sabah, the Yellow-Reds have added Real Madrid's Uruguayan midfielder Federico Valverde to their transfer agenda. With new Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho reportedly not counting the 27-year-old among his priority names for next season's squad planning, Galatasaray moved to test the waters.

The financial framework of the operation has also become clear. With Valverde, who has a contract with Real Madrid until June 2029 and a current market value of €90 million, seen as very difficult to sign outright due to cost, Galatasaray's priority is a loan arrangement. The club officially informed Real Madrid's management that they are open to talks and are prepared to cover a significant portion of the player's salary; the possibility of adding a purchase option is also on the agenda.

The most striking aspect of the pursuit is the Uruguayan connection. Galatasaray legends Fernando Muslera and Lucas Torreira, Valverde's national team teammates, reached out to the star directly to describe the positive atmosphere at the club, the fan support, and the Champions League ambitions; Torreira in particular is said to have delivered a "come join us" message about the dressing-room environment.

How Valverde, who endured a disappointing World Cup with Uruguay, will respond to this call remains to be seen. As of July 15, neither Galatasaray nor Real Madrid have issued an official statement confirming talks; clarity on the transfer is expected only after Mourinho holds his own conversation with the player.
