Harry Kane's decision confirmed: staying at Bayern

The eagerly awaited decision over the England captain's future has become clear. According to Ben Jacobs, Harry Kane will extend his contract at Bayern Munich. Barcelona and Al-Hilal had previously made contact to enquire about his situation.

Behind this decision lies an extraordinary season. Having delivered an extraordinary performance for Bayern and England in 2025-26, scoring 73 goals in 65 matches — a tally only surpassed this century by Lionel Messi (82 goals in 69 appearances in 2011-12) — Kane fired Bayern to a domestic treble and scored six goals at the World Cup, though England were knocked out by Argentina in the semi-final.

Jacobs summarised Kane's choice with striking words. "Perhaps they'll be good enough next year under new manager Jose Mourinho, but they don't know. At Bayern Munich, Harry Kane knows there's a chance. Sorry, Tottenham. Harry wants to win the Champions League now. He can't wait for Spurs to build towards something. He wants the big title."

Bayern's confidence over the matter also has a technical basis. According to Yahoo Sports, Bayern are relaxed about Kane's future given there was no option to trigger the previously mentioned €65 million release clause this summer; club officials are reported to be aware of interest from Barcelona and Al-Hilal but understand the player wants to stay in the Bundesliga.

Al-Hilal's history with this file is also notable. According to GiveMeSport, Al-Hilal have been engaged in on-off negotiations with Kane since summer 2023, having also made an approach before last summer's Club World Cup, though Kane made clear he had no intention of leaving Bayern.

This decision carries broader significance. Having joined from Tottenham for £100 million in summer 2023 and scored 146 goals in 147 appearances for the Bavarian club, Kane's decision is emphasised to end all speculation over a potential return to England.
