Jose Mourinho Reacts Furiously to Real Madrid Management Over Rodri

Real Madrid have been rocked by one of the most unexpected developments of the summer transfer window. According to Marca, citing anonymous sources, Rodri, who led Spain to World Cup glory and was named the tournament's best player, has snubbed Real Madrid in favour of bitter rival Barcelona, despite weeks of advanced negotiations between the two parties. A personal phone call from head coach Hansi Flick is said to have been decisive in persuading Rodri to agree terms with the Catalan club.

According to the report, this development has left both club president Florentino Perez and head coach Jose Mourinho deeply furious. Mourinho reportedly "couldn't believe the news" when told that the player had rejected Real Madrid's offer and was heading to Barcelona. The Portuguese manager has also expressed frustration with club executives, who are said to have told him no further midfield reinforcements are planned, citing a lack of worthy alternatives on the market. There is also said to be an understanding within the club that the squad is already "full" following the arrivals of Bernardo Silva, Marc Cucurella, Denzel Dumfries, Carlos Espi, Ibrahima Konate and Yan Diomande.

Rodri's decision, at age 30, is being viewed as a major blow for Real Madrid, who have gone trophyless over the past two seasons while Barcelona claimed five of six available domestic titles. Real Madrid's struggles to control the midfield since the departures of Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are cited as a key factor behind that drought, with the club now expected to renew its search for a new defensive midfielder.
