According to information shared by journalist Alfredo Martinez on social media, the 2027 Spanish Super Cup will be held in Istanbul during the first week of February, replacing Saudi Arabia, the tournament's traditional host in recent years. The semi-final pairings for the four-team knockout event have already been confirmed: Real Sociedad vs Real Madrid, and Barcelona vs Atletico Madrid.

Should this surprising development be confirmed, Real Madrid head coach Jose Mourinho — who once managed Fenerbahce through a particularly eventful period — would find himself returning to Istanbul. Martinez also highlighted that the tournament could mark the first official meeting between Mourinho and Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick. In response to an inquiry on the matter, the Turkish Football Federation stated that no official proposal or information had reached them yet, though they would consider any such offer if received.

Hosted by Saudi Arabia in recent years, the arrival of the Spanish Super Cup in Istanbul is seen as further cementing the city's place on the international sporting events calendar.
