Julian Nagelsmann resigns from his post

A change has taken place in the manager's role at the Germany national team. After the national team's elimination by Paraguay on penalties in the World Cup Round of 32, coach Julian Nagelsmann has resigned from his post. Coming during a period when the tournament continues, this decision found a wide echo on the football agenda.

The 38-year-old manager, in his comments about his future right after the elimination, had said he is not someone who runs away and that he was ready to stay in the role if the federation wanted to continue with him. But after a meeting of about three and a half hours with the German Football Association (DFB) leadership, the picture changed. According to what was reported, the federation leadership advised Nagelsmann to resign; the experienced manager, despite his disappointment, accepted this recommendation and stepped down.

Commenting on the process, DFB President Bernd Neuendorf emphasized that, after such a devastating disappointment and given the challenges ahead, they cannot and will not simply carry on as before. Having taken charge in September 2023, Nagelsmann had guided the team to the Euro 2024 quarter-finals, where they were eliminated by eventual winners Spain. Germany had topped Group E at the World Cup (beating Curaçao 7-1 and Ivory Coast 2-1, losing 2-1 to Ecuador), then were knocked out by Paraguay on penalties after a 1-1 draw in extra time in the Round of 32.

After this development, all eyes turned to Germany's new choice. According to reports, the name emerging for the manager's job is Jürgen Klopp; it was stated that the experienced manager is ready for the role should an offer come from the federation. The path Germany follows on the managerial question will remain one of the most talked-about storylines on the football agenda in the coming period.
