Juventus' New Target: Guglielmo Vicario

Having weighed multiple goalkeeping options over the summer, Juventus have shifted their focus toward Tottenham's Italian shot-stopper Guglielmo Vicario after PSG gained the upper hand in the pursuit of Zion Suzuki. According to transfer specialist Matteo Moretto, although Emiliano Martinez remains the club's top priority, a significant gap over the asking price with Aston Villa is pushing Juventus to keep their contacts with Vicario active. "The name of Dibu Martinez has gradually faded. Remember Juventus had a deal for Alisson, but they weren't fast enough to close it before Liverpool managed to retain him," Moretto noted.

Head coach Luciano Spalletti is said to be directly involved in the process, telling reporters after a pre-season friendly against Nice: "On Vicario, we need to understand Tottenham's decision to leave him out of the squad. I also like Suzuki a lot, he's a very high-quality goalkeeper." According to Moretto, the current sense is that Juventus don't feel strong enough in the race for the Japanese keeper, as other clubs are prepared to offer significantly more.

The 29-year-old Italian goalkeeper is said to want a return to Serie A and to be content with his situation, described by Moretto as "a profile gradually climbing the hierarchy." It remains to be seen what fee Tottenham will demand for the player, while it's also noted that Napoli previously held a lengthy informal conversation with Vicario without taking any concrete steps.
