As the presidential election to be held on June 6-7 at Fenerbahçe approaches, the transfer front has also become active. Hakan Safi, one of the presidential candidates, took action for world-famous striker Robert Lewandowski. According to information conveyed by Fabrizio Romano, Nicolo Schira and Yağız Sabuncuoğlu, Safi has established first contact with the player's representatives and submitted an official offer. The cost structure of the offer: 10 million Euros net annual salary, 2-year contract. This figure, if realised, will be one of the highest salaries in Süper Lig history.
Lewandowski's contract with Barcelona expires on June 30, 2026; meaning the Polish star comes to the market as a completely free agent this summer. The opportunity to add a body to the squad without paying a transfer fee in the Süper Lig; extremely attractive for a candidate like Hakan Safi who wants to make a show before the election. In the last 2025-26 season with Barcelona, Lewandowski played a total of 46 official matches and scored 19 goals, made 4 assists. Although these figures fell short of the previous season, considering his age, it is still significant productivity. His annual salary at Barcelona was 20.8 million Euros; his market value according to Transfermarkt is 8 million Euros.
While the news created a bomb effect in the market, a social media post by Lewandowski's wife Anna Lewandowska also took the fans' excitement to the peak. Anna Lewandowska answered "It will be Turkey" to a Turkish follower's question "Is there a chance you'll come to Turkey?" This short and clear answer was shared thousands of times within hours. This is of course not a transfer confirmation but it shows that the Polish star's family looks favourably at Turkey. Along with Lewandowski, names like Mason Greenwood, Serhou Guirassy and Turkish national team star Merih Demiral are also on Hakan Safi's transfer list.
To summarise Lewandowski's career profile: Borussia Dortmund (2010-2014), Bayern Munich (2014-2022) and Barcelona (2022-2026). 8 Bundesliga championships, 1 Champions League (Bayern, 2020), twice FIFA The Best Men's Player as a Pole, more than 700 total official goals throughout his career. In 2018, his market value rose to 90 million Euros. He went down in history as one of the unluckiest players who lost this prestigious Ballon d'Or award in 2020 because of COVID-19 — many analysts said the Ballon d'Or should have been given to Lewandowski that year.
Together with the "great transfer wave" of recent years in the Süper Lig (Mertens, Icardi, İlkay Gündoğan, Leroy Sane, Osimhen, Mauro Icardi), Lewandowski's coming to Fenerbahçe would be a new step for Turkish football. But first the election result must be clear on Sunday. If Hakan Safi wins the election, the chance of finalising the transfer is very high; if Aziz Yıldırım wins, since Vedat Muriqi is on his list, Lewandowski may be out of the equation. It is also known that the Polish player is evaluating other options — especially interest from the US MLS and Saudi Pro League is said.
