Liverpool's attacking search this summer window has gained a clear frontrunner. According to Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool are the club showing the most interest in PSG's French winger Bradley Barcola, with rumours sending him to Barcelona described as unfounded; there has been no discussion of a contract extension for the player so far.
Romano provided an important update on the matter on his YouTube channel. "Until last week, Barcola was untouchable; now I see him linked to several clubs. The reality, guys, is that Barcola is not untouchable, and there's a serious possibility he leaves PSG this summer," he said.
The background to this file aligns with Liverpool's broader attacking strategy. With Salah's departure leaving a gap in attack, Barcola is particularly important for Liverpool; Hugo Ekitike's serious achilles injury, which will keep him out for at least the first half of the season, is another factor accelerating the search. Liverpool's top target, Yan Diomande, choosing PSG instead pushed the club towards Barcola as an alternative.
There is also clarity on the competition front. While Arsenal's interest in Barcola is genuine, it is noted that the club's true priority is Morgan Rogers, and that their attempted "hijack" of PSG over Diomande was rejected — putting Liverpool ahead in the race.
The fee and financing details have also become clear. According to an earlier report from David Ornstein, PSG want a fee above the £116 million Manchester City paid for Elliot Anderson for the 23-year-old. Liverpool are reported to be able to finance this move via a potential sale of Cody Gakpo, in whom Tottenham are interested; according to a joint analysis by The Athletic and SkillCorner, Barcola's playing profile is a 97.7% match with Gakpo and a 99.6% match with Luis Diaz.
Under contract at PSG until 2028, Barcola gave an evasive answer when asked about his future: "Right now, I'm really focused on the World Cup. As for what will happen afterwards, honestly, I don't know yet."
