Liverpool's 2027 plan: eyeing a free transfer for Vinicius

An unexpected name has entered the conversation over the future of Real Madrid's Brazilian star. According to Spanish journalist Ramon Alvarez de Mon, Liverpool want to sign Vinicius Jr on a free transfer in June 2027.

Alvarez de Mon provided a detailed explanation of the matter on his YouTube channel. "Real Madrid are interested in renewing Vinicius's contract, and Vinicius is interested in staying at Real Madrid. These are the official positions, but at the moment, I'm not aware that the differences between the two sides have been resolved. Unless Vinicius's side sees an increase in Real Madrid's leverage, meaning a real rapprochement with Vinicius's position, they don't see the need to meet," he said.

This deadlock has paved the way for Liverpool's involvement. The journalist noted that this situation has prompted the player's representatives to explore the market and gauge interest from clubs, particularly in the Premier League: "During those preliminary discussions, there was one club that clearly responded positively to their interest in Vinicius, but the numbers worked out for 2027."

There is also an interesting "revenge" narrative behind this interest. It is recalled that Real Madrid previously took Trent Alexander-Arnold from Liverpool for a low fee and signed Ibrahima Konate as a free agent; it is emphasised that capturing Vinicius on a free transfer in the same manner would represent a form of payback for Liverpool.

The timing also points to a critical threshold. Vinicius's contract expires in June 2027, and under FIFA rules, the player will be eligible to hold pre-contract talks with foreign clubs starting from next January.

The player's career and current situation also illustrate the scale of this interest. Having played for Real Madrid since 2018 and contributed 22 goals and 14 assists in 53 appearances across all competitions last season, the 26-year-old Brazilian, valued at €140 million by Transfermarkt, has won the Champions League twice and La Liga three times with the club. PSG and Bayern Munich are also reported to be closely following the player's situation; he remains a fundamental part of Jose Mourinho's project, though previous extension talks stalled due to disagreements over financial terms.
