MLS side Atlanta United have moved to bring a major name into their attack. According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, the club is "pushing hard" to sign Napoli striker Romelu Lukaku. Talks between the relevant parties are said to already be underway, with Lukaku reportedly giving his approval to a move away from Napoli this summer, though negotiations remain at an "early stage."
Lukaku, who joined Napoli from Chelsea on a three-year deal in the summer of 2024 and played a major role in the club's 2024-25 Scudetto-winning campaign, was limited to just five league appearances in an injury-hit 2025-26 season. No longer a guaranteed starter under new head coach Massimiliano Allegri, particularly with Rasmus Hojlund in the mix, the 33-year-old's agent recently signalled the player's openness to a move, stating he "isn't the kind of person who stays where he's not wanted."
Napoli are reportedly willing to entertain offers in the region of €10 million for Lukaku this summer. The bigger obstacle for interested clubs is said to be the player's salary, which stands at around €8 million gross per season. Should Atlanta United actually pull off the move, it would rank among the biggest transfers in recent MLS history, with Lukaku still seen as capable of transforming an attack's level even at this stage of his career.
