Manchester City seal Elliot Anderson: £150 million

Premier League giants Manchester City have landed the key man in their plan to rebuild their midfield. Per Fabrizio Romano, City have struck an agreement with Nottingham Forest for their star midfielder Elliot Anderson. With a fee reaching a total of £150 million, this transfer breaks the record in English football history and leaves its mark on the summer window.

Getting the transfer to this point was not easy. City had seen their opening bids for the 23-year-old turned down by Forest. Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is known as a tough negotiator and held firm on a high fee for Anderson, who has become one of the most dynamic midfielders in the Premier League. In the end, the parties settled on this huge figure that breaks the British record. For Forest, the sale means a huge profit far above their original investment.

The picture on Anderson's side was in City's favour from the start. Manchester United had also shown interest in the player at one point; but after the player communicated a clear preference for the Etihad, United exited the race and City had a clear run. Anderson, currently playing for England at the 2026 World Cup, is expected to undergo a medical in North America in line with camp regulations. England head coach Thomas Tuchel confirming he would allow squad members to undergo medicals during the tournament cleared the path for the process.

This transfer marks the start of a new era for City. After Pep Guardiola's departure and captain Bernardo Silva leaving the club on a free transfer, Anderson becomes the first major signing of the Enzo Maresca era. The player, the centrepiece of sporting director Hugo Viana's first summer window at the Etihad, offers exactly the profile Maresca's system demands, with both his box-to-box energy and his technical quality. The former Newcastle United player had become one of the Premier League's best central midfielders over the past year.
