Morocco pull clear: 4-2 win over Haiti

In the 2026 FIFA World Cup group stage, Morocco beat Haiti 4-2 at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta to finish top of the group. In a game that was 2-2 at half-time and in which Haiti put up huge resistance, Morocco, ranked 7th in the FIFA rankings, pulled clear with an effective second-half display and left with three points.

A surprise came at the start: in the 10th minute, an unfortunate own goal from Morocco keeper Bono put Haiti 1-0 up. Morocco levelled at 1-1 in the 39th minute through captain Achraf Hakimi. But Haiti went ahead again; in the 43rd minute, with a Duverne assist, Wilde-Donald Isidor sent the ball into the net to make it 2-1. Morocco restored parity in first-half stoppage time: in the 45+1 minute, on a Hakimi build-up, Ismael Saibari's goal closed the half at 2-2.

The second half belonged entirely to Morocco. In the 78th minute, with a Riad Coufal assist, Soufiane Rahimi's goal put Morocco ahead for the first time: 3-2. Taking full control after that goal, Morocco extended the lead in the 89th minute, this time with a Rahimi assist and a goal from Gabriel Yassine to make it 4-2 and secure the win. In the closing stages, Haiti's Nazon and Placide, and players from Morocco in the run of play, were booked.

In the match refereed by the Netherlands' Danny Makkelie and watched by 68,239 spectators, the stats clearly laid out Morocco's superiority. Morocco were clearly ahead of their opponents on expected goals (xG) 3.26 to 0.61, on possession 69% to 31% and on total shots 22-10. Also leading 4-0 on big chances, Morocco translated this clear superiority onto the scoreboard to finish top of the group and advance to the next round looking strong.
