Morten Hjulmand's "Here We Go" to Atlético

The awaited official transfer for Atlético Madrid's midfield has been completed. The club announced they have completed the transfer of Danish midfielder Morten Hjulmand, who played for Sporting Lisbon. The deal, made official with Fabrizio Romano's "Here We Go" announcement, found a wide echo on the football agenda.

According to reports, the two clubs agreed on all terms of the transfer, and the paperwork process began as of today. It was stated that the total transfer fee consists of €40 million plus add-ons. The 26-year-old, who had captained Sporting, will sign a five-year contract with Atlético Madrid running until June 2031.

Hjulmand will fly to Madrid today for his medical. The experienced player, who moved to Sporting from Italy's Lecce in 2023, quickly became one of the team's key figures at Alvalade. Having won the league twice with the Portuguese club, in the 2024 and 2025 seasons, Hjulmand appears to be entering an important juncture in his career.

It was reported that manager Diego Simeone identified Hjulmand as his priority target to add physical strength and balance to the midfield. The experienced midfielder is expected to join the pre-season preparations, set to begin on 13 July, directly. It is assessed that Atlético Madrid have largely completed their midfield planning with this transfer.
